Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my garburator / garbage disposal stops working or leaks?

If your garbage disposal is jammed, turn off the power supply before attempting to clear it out yourself. If you are unable to clear it or it still won’t run after cleaning it, it is time for our professionals to repair your garburator. If it is leaking, it is probably rusted through, and it’s time for a new garburator installation. At this point, some people choose to have the garburator removed completely, and Langley Home Plumbing & Heating can also help you with that by taking the garburator out and reconnecting everything back up under the sink.

What should I do if my sink is clogged?

Most importantly, there are things you should not do. Plunging the sink can rupture the pipes and fittings under the sink, causing leaks. We also don’t recommend using solutions like Liquid Plumber as they are very corrosive and dangerous for your sink and pipes. Drain cleaning is a very specialized skill, and our technicians at Langley Home Plumbing have the knowledge, experience and state-of-the-art tools to unclog your sink quickly.

What should I do if I suspect a gas leak?

If you smell gas (like rotten eggs or sulphur), we recommend calling Fortis BC at 1-800-663-9911. They will do a FREE inspection with the most sensitive equipment available. Once the leak has been verified, call Langley Home Plumbing & Heating for a speedy repair done by one of our expert certified gas technicians.

How often should I perform furnace maintenance, and what does it include?

Our furnace maintenance package includes an inspection, tune-up and cleaning. It should be done once a year, regardless of the age of your furnace. Maintaining your furnace will keep it running efficiently and increase its lifespan. Langley Home Plumbing and Heating has a certified gas-fitter ready to do your furnace maintenance year-round.

What should I do if my hot water tank leaks?

First, you should check your hot water tank monthly for signs of leakage. When you do find water under your tank, start by turning off the water supply valve, usually located above the tank. You can then drain the tank yourself or call us to do it for you. If your tank is gas, turn off the gas valve as well. If your tank is electric, shut off the electricity. Once a tank leaks, it cannot be repaired, so call Langley Home Plumbing & Heating for a free quote and a speedy hot water tank replacement in Langley, Surrey, White Rock, or Aldergrove.
